Run to Kitt Peak April 24, 2010

Apr 24

The club run to Kitt Peak, which is located southwest of Tucson, came off without a hitch this time around, meaning, the weather cooperated.  Clear skies and calm winds (the perfect combination for star-gazing), plus the curvaceous 12-mile drive up to the summit was enjoyed by all club participants.  The top-down, happy crowd shown gathered before the final climb to the summit (see photos) were shocked to find cold weather and SNOW when they reached the top!  After everyone had buttoned up their babies,  Ed whipped a few snowballs in Ray's direction, but consuming hot chocolate and getting warm was on most everyone's mind so no retaliation ensued.

Club members enjoyed box lunches prior to the nighttime activities, which included watching a beautiful desert sunset, gazing at the stars with and without binoculars, plus viewing our moon, Saturn, and far-off galaxies/stars through high-powered telescopes.  The club members who attended all experienced something new, whether it was gaining more insight about our universe from the highly knowledgeable guide astronomers, or seeing the rings and moons of Saturn.  And you know... just like a Miata, the Universe is something you've got to love.
